John Voter started his lending career in 1992 after personally experiencing the loan process while buying his first home in Nevada County. The Founders and Their Brewing Journey

Kevin Krikorian graduated from California State University, Fresno with a BS in Enology and a minor in chemistry. Like his father, Kevin began brewing beer while in college, his fermentation background not only supported his focus on winemaking, but also in brewing. Kevin's love for brewing turned into a dream of opening a brewery in his hometown, Grass Valley California. With the help of his father, David, Kevin's dream came to fruition with the opening of 1849

David Krikorian has been Homebrewing since 1980 and has dreamed of opening a brewery since the early 1990s. His dream began to come to fruition when Kevin took an interest in homebrewing while at college. Together they planned 1849 Brewing Company

From Grassroots Beginnings to Award-Winning Kombucha

Gold Vibe Kombuchary began as a small, family-run kombucha project started by brothers Patrick and Sean Millar. What began as NC Kombuchary quickly grew through local support, a successful Kickstarter campaign, and a commitment to organic ingredients and honest brewing. Today, Gold Vibe produces award-winning hard kombucha and operates a 24,000-square-foot taproom and production facility in Grass Valley. Still locally owned and deeply connected to the community, Gold Vibe continues to craft innovative, refreshing kombucha with the same grassroots spirit that launched it.

In recent years, Covid aside, going to the movies has changed in some exciting ways. Sure, the big summer blockbusters and action-packed superhero flicks are still a hit in those massive movie theaters, but there's another story unfolding. All across the country, some independent cinemas are doing things differently. They're all about showing you top-notch films, the kind that win Oscars, but they're doing it in a cozier, more intimate setting. And they're not stopping at just great films; they're adding delicious food and drinks and a bunch of extra perks, all geared toward a more grown-up audience.

As a genuine arthouse cinema, we're unabashedly committed to bringing to the Sierra Foothills the best, most entertaining, and thought-provoking films from Hollywood and beyond. Film is at the center of The Onyx experience, and our hope is that the people sitting in our seats will connect with the dramas, comedies, documentaries and other works we present; creating a shared experience in a cozy, friendly environment where you might even feel or learn something you didn't quite expect, or make a new friend.

Our Story

In 2007 the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce conducted the �Great Nevada City Survey� and 89% of respondents called for the creation of a walkable marketplace. Community members and producers came together to create the Nevada City Farmers Market Association. It is a joint venture of the community, local farmers who practice sustainable agriculture, and local businesses.

Our mission is to enhance the quality of life and economic resilience of our community by providing access to high quality, locally grown products. To support regional, sustainable producers through direct access to consumers. To create a community meeting place and to foster consumer education.

In December 2016, we held the first winter farmers market in Nevada County. Now the winter market is held every Saturday, January through mid-April, indoors! During the summer season, you can find us each Saturday from mid-April to mid-December on Union Street in downtown Nevada City.

Estate Winemaking, Vineyard Tours, and Hands-On Craft

Mark Henry is the owner, vineyardist and winemaker. Julianne Henry's official title is �Wine Muse�, a designation that belies her efforts at keeping things under control. Together, they welcome the opportunity to walk you through the vineyards, fountains, �go-ahead, pick some� herb garden and, of course, the winery.

A true Garagiste, the estate home and winery are one-in-the-same. In the winery, Mark takes his cue from the esteemed wines of Montalcino, Tuscany. Long, slow fermentations using special Tuscan yeasts, extended macerations and barrel aging all play to the strengths of Sangiovese and Aglianico grapes.
