A 50-Year Story Built on Wine, Music, and Community
Friar Tuck's opened in 1973 when 24-year-old Greg Cook took over an 1860 brick building at the corner of Pine and Commercial. The early days were defined by torch-burnt plywood tables, star-shaped chandeliers, and a simple vision built on two things: wine and music.
Five decades later, the spirit is unchanged. The custom mahogany bar - handcrafted in Arcadia - still anchors the room. The twin wine cellars still hold one of the region's most respected collections. And the Sherwood Forest Room, rebuilt after a 2002 fire with the help of local artists and neighbors, still glows with its fiber-optic tree and the sense of community that restored it.
Friar Tuck's remains what it has always been: a beloved Nevada City gathering place where history, hospitality, and nightly music come together under one roof.
